6 Different Styles of Presenting in front of a Camera

6 Different Styles of Presenting in front of a Camera

Welcome to a new feature which I have temporarily names:

‘Your Questions Thursday’ – (I’m sure I’ll find a super cool alternative soon)

The premise is simple. I get asked a lot of questions, so each Thursday I will set about answering them.

Todays question deals with a question I was asked a few times this week:

How hard was it to get in front of the camera?

So, I created a video where I answered it, but had a little fun with it too.

Be sure to check out the links below the video so you can see some of the styles I mention yourself. If you like, be sure to share it, I’s appreciate it!

Resources mentioned in the Video:

Smart Passive Income – Pat’s blog. He mixes his styles up a bit between screen presentation and personally being on screen.

2 Create a Website – Lisa’s Blog. Love the entertaining way in which she speaks. Very knowledgable lady.

Entrepreneurs Journey – Good old Yaro. One of the first to talk about blogging for money and the home to my guest posts.

Gideon Shalwick – If you know Yaro you know this chap. Video making expert and Yaro’s partner on various projects.

Marie Forleo – We think so alike it’s just crazy… the main inspiration for todays style of video.

Pauly C Marketing – By you guessed it PaulyC ! He’s my partner on Blog Commenting Tribe and has a great teaching style.

YoGirly – Our very own Brooklyn’s site. She is not only smart but also very hard working. Also a Blog Commenting Tribe member.

NOW YOUR TURN!

In the comments below I want you to tell me what you feels makes a great video viewing experience.

What makes you want to view longer?

What makes you want to switch off?

What makes you take ACTION?

Be sure to share this content with anyone who has been struggling with creating their first video. They will thank you for it!

    Hey Dee,

    I love it man!!!!

That was sweet… I’m not buying that you’re shy in front of the camera.

What makes me want to view longer –> Entertaining videos that are also educational, as someone who has far too many years of ‘formal education’ under his belt, I always need to be learning and moving forward… This is why I’m such a huge fan of Marie Forleo’s blog – she’s funny and knows her stuff, and I can’t lie – she super cute (which helps)

What makes me want to switch off –> Anything that is too slow, drab, or simply generic in nature… Or videos that don’t seem to be going anywhere.

What makes you take action –> Good question, I have an enormous drive and desire to succeed in life – I’ve always been driven and never really had any problem taking action, which makes me a terrible candidate for “tips on taking action Thursday”… It’s just gotta be something you really want, have to focus, and go for it. Obviously fear is a big motivator, so I suppose I’d say FEAR of failure gets my a** in gear day in and day out – and making my family product too.

Sweet video… I think somewhere down the road we should get together and do an entire video series :)

    Later!

    Pauly C

PS. I’m checking out the pretty girl in the room, not the notes ;)

    • Marie says:

Hey Paul! Thank you SO much for the props and for watching! I really appreciate it.

      • Dee says:

Something tells me Paul does not always listen to all the wisdom being spoken! But he did at least learn the side glance at notes from you!

      • Paul says:

Hey Marie! Thank you! You’ve got a kick-ass blog, it’s always fun to watch and learn – even when you’re doing some Jay-Z action :)

  2. Paul says:

And I’m also inspired to change up the style a bit now…

    • Dee says:

Honestly, I like your style and would not change it. It is so unique to you, and your audience seems to really enjoy your videos too.

  3. Dee says:

    Cool answers Pauly.

Interesting what you say about taking action. ‘Fear of failure’ often paralyses people but you seem to be very difficult.

I guess I personally have never been scared of failure because I truly believe I just cannot be unsuccessful !

You should sometimes turn the cam around so we can catch glimpses of the ‘scenery’ walking past your window too…

  4. Brooklyn says:

DEE – I LOVE YOUR VIDEO!!

And it wasn’t just because of the compliments ;)

I cannont bellieve that you just now started making videos. THere are so many marketers that have made tons of videos that aren’t even half as good as the ones you have made.

    Bravo!

As far as your questions…. I think that in the past it was preferred that marketers make a very stiff “professional” video. I can definately see that it has changed dramatically over the years. Maybe because of youtube.

The audience does want to connect and they want to see a real person. They want to feel like they know you personally (someone just told me that they felt that way because of my videos) and they also want to feel like they could do it themselves easily.

One key to a great video that I try to follow is don’t make it too long. Get the point across in a real way and people will love it! And if you have a few points to make or are teaching something, keep it flowing.

Thank you for the shout out and keep the video gold coming!

    Brooklyn

    • Dee says:

Thanks Brooklyn, I truly appreciate your kind words.

I so hear you on the shorter videos issue. Although I do not believe you can get everything across in a small video, it does seem to be the way Youtube and social media is pushing people. It also makes content creation easier if I only have to worry about a few minutes rather then the 30 minute lessons I recorded for my coaching course!

      Dee

  5. Marie says:

Thank You Dee! Great work giving everyone different ideas, people and styles to be inspired by. Keep rockin’ :)

  6. Hi Dee,

Just had to comment on this video… It’s awesome!

Love the exploration of different styles and techniques!

I think the biggest thing for me in watching a video is informative and entertaining – personally, I’m not a video person, I’d rather read, so if I’m going to watch it, it better be entertaining and teach me something.

Quickest way to lose me with a video is to be long winded.

What makes me take action is an irresistible offer!

    Very cool Dee!
